Canada charging tariffs on American goods is incredibly stupid...... What we are talking about here is how to replace revenue and markets due to American tariffs. The best way to deal with it is place export surtaxes on products Canada exports, products that the USA can not produce enough of and to transfer the revenues from these surtaxes to help exporters shift to other international markets; For examples, 2%-10% on those crude oil grades the USA requires, 10% on large dimension old growth timber, 10% on raw pulp, 50% on lead, silver, and gold ingots, 25% on potash etc,etc........
Tariffs should only be charged on USA goods, that Canada can produce for itself. As far as automobiles go, Canada should allow the importation Chinese and other countries vehicles. ..... I hate the trucks available on the Canadian market now........
What I would like to get my hands on for the farm is a 5 Ton Tata 4x4 or even a 1 ton Tata Super Ace; With these you can get 40 miles to the gallon on diesel fuel in regards the super Ace. .... Another vehicle I would really like to purchase is a diesel Toyota Landcrusier........... All that we have for sale here in North America is rubbishy junk, over priced surveillance devices on wheels.
One thing I would like to see is the elimination of junk building materials, just as plastic flooring, siding and plastic plumbing, particle board cabinets, etc, etc. They use to make gypsum drywall in Surrey BC, although in the house I built myself, I did it the old fashion way with lathing and plaster.
If you want to better understand the housing issues today, let me explain in my podcast here:
