A new prime minister but we have the same Liberal party.
There two ways to have a lot more housing but keep prices on privately owned housing high. One is for the federal government to build hundreds of thousands of public housing units.
The second way is to build much smaller/cheaper homes on narrow lots; homes that do not have garages, only two bedrooms, one bathroom and a small kitchen.
Just amazing how these politicians talk out of both sides of their face! He can’t possibly be that clueless to think housing is not over priced! We are at the top of this real estate cycle and must be reset to sustainable levels . This is just a fact of history which will be repeated again! Government can’t fix this problem they created with their free money idiotic policies! They need to get out of the way and let the market reset before they make it worse if that is possible! Let businesses compete and get out of the way and stay in your lane! More government fixes nothing !!
This may not be a popular comment, but housing is not over priced. It is over-taxed, over-regulated, and takes too long to build, plus investment in housing is discouraged by poor policy choices. But it's not over-priced based on the cost of delivering housing. It does not matter what the government says about preserving the value of homes. Any controversy around Gregor's comments is barking up the wrong tree.
The mayor of Vancouver was one of those who directly caused the bubble in housing there and now Carnage wants him to make it happen throughout Canada. Is this a joke?
Housing in Canada is not just something to live in, it is economically and politically a dominant factor. Two thirds of Canadians live in owner occupied, one third have a mortgage and it is the largest sector in our economy being about 20% of our GDP. And it is important to remember that only new homes and services are in GDP, not resales. So if new real estate is critical to keep up the prices to not annoy the owners, but immigration is under severe stress due to mismanagement so may not keep up the demand for new housing ...
