Reality is that Liberal party is trying to make the election a one issue discussion -- Trump vs Canada. They're doing this to distract Canadians from their abysmal track record, which you've nicely highlighted here
it should be brought out in the open, Carney's ties to the WEF, Globalist, and Davos crowd and their agenda - remember, Trudeau, Freeland,, and Singh are all Schwab Global Young Leaders - saw a video of Schwab boasting of how he had infiltrated the Canadian Cabinet - Carney no better than Trudeau - a wolf in sheep's clothing
I am having a heck of a time trying to decide who I will vote for. Like many, I'm done with Justin. Carney has an impressive resume in comparison to Pierre but is he just Justin 2.0? Some say he was deeply embedded in Trudeau's policy and I was not happy that Christia even has a place in cabinet (WTF?). I'm going to surmise that trump tariffs will be independent of what government we elect so I personally won't factor this into my decision.
The bigger issue for me is we have received our rude awakening - and this is a 20 year problem to fix. We need some short term planning to get through the next 4 years but also a long term plan that gets us to a more resilient economy not tied to the US - and a 20 year plan has to be able to bridge multiple changes in government. My concern is if the dems get in on the next election, we will quickly forget how the US has treated us and this simply cannot ever happen again.
Carney is taking flack for the carbon tax. Assuming we need to solidify the EU as a trade partner, they won't be prepared to do business with us without a carbon reduction plan in place (and they will deal with this via their own tariffs). If this is the case, if the conservative's scrap the carbon tax, who are our trade partners?
If Carney does get in, all I hope is that they "unleft" themselves. In the interim, we are left with memes and one liners to solve complicated problems because we the voters have lost all critical thinking ability.
I think all of you are looking at today's events in too narrow a scope. We have an existential battle, right now. And yes, the main issue is about Trump v Canada. How foolish to think otherwise. Do you think Europeons were discussing housing costs during the blitz? If the conservatives get into power and they acquiesce to Trump's desire, in whole or in part, the price of homes will be the least of your problems. We like the rest of the planet are fiscally recovering from Covid based on financials in the last 5 years. In addition Trump's first term and current term is also having an effect on the economy. This doesn't include the tariff shenanigans. So your shit talk is just that. Shit. A Canadian who assisted both Paul Martin and your hero Steven Harper straighten out Canada's financial ship is quite a feat. Plus he is the only Canadian to ever be elected as the head of the Bank of England after he was the head of the Bank of Canada So when Mark Carney talks finances I trust his expertise.
Centre leaning voices have been calling for Trudeau to rewrite policy that addresses productivity, diversifies trade, incentivizes businesses and more for some time.
Trump’s policy has ignited and fused the electorate across the country that now DEMAND change to all aspects of government.
I think that depending on foreign investors is like importing housing fentanyl. It’s cheap and additive and easy. And the next generation would be rent dependent.
What’s hard is developing policies to encourage local home ownership and local investment. Smarter people than me can make suggestions.
